In their group Shoreham’s under 8 side were matched against the home side as well as two touring sides from Beckenham and Reading.
The day started with a match against the first of the two Beckenham sides. A closely contested affair there was only ever one score separating the teams but Beckenham ran out the eventual winners 6 tries to 5. As has been the story of their season Shoreham’s under 8 were on the wrong side of getting a positive result out of a tight game.
The following match gave Shoreham an opportunity to put things right against the second Beckenham side.
They started this tie brightly with tries from Frankie Phillips and three from Thomas Molee they led 4 – 2 at half time. Keeping up the tempo in the second half they ran in a further three tries from Thomas Kentell, Reuben Edmondson and Stan Taylor to run out comfortable 7 – 4 winners.
The third game saw Shoreham suffer their worst defeat of the season against a strong side from Reading. Shoreham were caught by 3 early Reading tries and although they came back strongly the damage had been done. The sides were much closer than the 7 – 4 scoreline suggests.
In their final game Shoreham took out their frustrations on the home side of Bognor. Racing into a 5 – 2 half time lead they never looked in danger and finished up 9 – 6 winners. Although this match was a whole team performance with everybody contributing a special mention must be made of Reuben Edmondson 7 tries!
