The season is now reaching its business end where the tournaments are played and the trophies are won and lost. Crawley came down to Buckingham Park to face a Shoreham U9 side who have shown glimpses of excellent play mixed with some half asleep performances over the season.
After some warm ups and drills we got down to business with a big squad of 13 boys providing 4 subs for the match.
Across the two matches the boys always seemed to be in control and in front. Despite a lot of substitutions, which sometimes affected the teams shape, the level of the performance was of a consistently higher level than across the rest of the season. There was some technically very good tackling which when coupled with a high line and the right amount of aggression regularly forced Crawley backwards. The attacking play was for the most part direct and when the boys timed their off loads well they regularly found the space in which to run.
Match one was the better performance and our play forced Crawley back regularly. The final score was 5-2 with tries for Samuel Kentell, Mattias Woollard, Toby Gale, Louie Stillman and Paul Pattenden. The second match was more disrupted due to changes but Shoreham still won 5-3 with two tries for Max Woolven-Parsons, and one each for Mattias Woollard, Louie Stillman and Samuel Kentell.
